August 2025: Leading by Example in Real Estate
The Dog Days of Summer and the Power of Leading by Example
August is here, the dog days of summer. For many, this is the time to recharge, reflect, and reconnect.
Whether you’re squeezing in one last family trip before back-to-school or simply enjoying quieter days, August is a natural pause. It’s a reminder to reflect on how we spend our time, who we spend it with, and what legacy we’re building.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to reconnect with past clients, friends, and family. Thank you to everyone who replied and shared an update.
A Conversation That Stuck With Me
A long-time client now enjoying retirement reached out and suggested we meet face to face.
He shared that while retirement was going well, he felt a strong pull to do something meaningful, stay active, and help position the next generation. Our conversation quickly turned to financial literacy.
We both agreed this is not a topic taught enough in schools, and often not discussed enough at home either. Families should be passing down financial wisdom and the principles of real estate as a path to generational prosperity.
Leadership starts with action. This client realized he was sitting on significant untapped equity. Rather than letting it sit idle, he decided to put it to work. Together, we’re planning a joint venture on an investment property and then repeating the process.
The goal: momentum, purpose, and legacy.
A Personal Reflection
I recently spent a weekend in the GTA with my wife and three daughters. It was filled with great meals, big laughs, and even bigger personalities.
That trip reminded me of something important: time is our most limited currency.
There are only so many hours in a day, and we must choose wisely how we spend them. For me, that means saying no more often. If something doesn’t move my mission forward, it may be better suited to someone else.
You can’t do everything. But you can move your own ship forward.
“Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing.” - Warren Buffett
I’d add: knowledge without action is just potential energy.
Final Thought
Growth takes time. Don’t rush.
Set up your life to compound value over the long term. Play long-term games with long-term people. Make time work for you, not against you.
